Celebrating Nominations for the 2017 GRAMMY Awards

We are thrilled that our writers have been recognized by the Recording Academy and the wider industry for the 2017 GRAMMY Awards® nominations. Twelve of Downtown’s clients have received nods or have played significant contributions to 20 nominations, across a variety of categories. See the full line up below:

Sturgill Simpson is rounding off a trailblazing year with the addition of three GRAMMY Award nominations: Album of the Year and Best Country Album for A Sailor's Guide to Earth and contributions to Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media with a co-write on Vinyl: The Essentials Season 1. Nominated with pop MVPs Adele, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, and Drake -- Sturgill sparked a trending topic on twitter echoing his bewilderment and that of the masses.

A previous two-time winner and nine-time nominee, Benny Blanco, is up again for Producer of the Year and four other nominations including: Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best R&B Song, and contributions to Best Pop Solo Performance for co-writes and production.

Writer and composer John Leventhal is nominated for two awards with William Bell: Best Americana Album, This Is Where I Live and contributions to Best Traditional R&B Performance for "The Three Of Me."

RAC has been nominated for Best Remixed Recording for "Tearing Me Up (RAC Remix)" with André Allen Anjos, and remixer (Bob Moses).

Austin Jenkins and Josh Block of Niles City Sound contributed to “River” by Leon Bridges which is nominated for Best Music Video.

Up for Best Music in Film is The Beatles: Eight Days A Week The Touring Years featuring John Lennon's written “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me.”


DJ Khaled’s Best Rap Album nomination for Major Key features the song “Holy Key” sampling Edizioni Curci’s "Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te)."

Anti by Rihanna grabbed a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album featuring Shea Taylor’s co-written single “James Joint.”

Alva Noto / Carsten Nicolai (Budde Music) is up for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for co-composing Golden Globe-winning The Revenant's soundtrack.

The single “Without You” from Anderson .Paak’s nominated Best Urban Contemporary Album Malibu, samples Hiatus Kaiyote’s song "Molasses.”

We are looking forward to The 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremony, which will be held on February 12, 2017. The CBS network will broadcast the show live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
