Congratulations to Izzy Bizu for her Brits 2016 Critic's Choice Award nomination along with Frances and Jack Garrat. The winner will be announced on Friday 27 November.
Eight years ago Adele was recognized as the Critic's Choice winner and since then the committee of industry insiders and journalists (that make up the Brit awards) have continued to select future successes. Past winners of this award include Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sandé, James Bay, Florence + the Machine, Jessie J, Tom Odell and Sam Smith. These artists have gone on to sing John Lewis advert songs, perform for the Royal Family, headline Glastonbury, and win numerous Grammy's.
The Twenty-one-year-old Downtown writer, Izzy Bizu, first gained the attention of Emeli Sandé and producer Naughty Boy during an open mic night in 2013.
Within months, the South Londoner's self-released EP Coolbeanz debuted at number three on the iTunes RnB chart and she landed support for Sam Smith on his tour. She's already brought her infectious blend of soul, pop and RnB to Glastonbury twice and is set to release her debut album, A Moment of Madness in May of 2016.
Bizu told Brits, “I’m so honored to be nominated for the Brits critics’ choice award this year, following in the footsteps of amazingly talented artists like Adele, Emeli Sandé and James Bay so thank you! I grew up watching the Brits on the TV at home so it’s pretty exciting to be a part of it!”
