Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Songwriters:
A few weeks ago I was meeting with a prominent lawyer in the industry and mentioned we were in the process of filling a number of roles at the company including a data strategist. The lawyer stopped me and said, “You’re a music publisher, why on earth are you hiring a data strategist?”
I laughed, held my tongue and enjoyed the rest of my soup.
On the way back to my office I started to think about all of the new people we were hiring, how critical they would be to our operation and how many of these roles never quite get the public attention that they deserve.
Of course, it’s not a surprise. Publishers, including Downtown, have long focused much of their public relations efforts at highlighting new signings and catalog acquisitions but it’s really what happens after the acquisition that matters and there is not enough attention paid to the people that make that difference. We’re committing to changing the conversation and encouraging all of our clients and songwriting partners to get to know the people who you entrust to manage your creative works.
With that in mind, I’m thrilled to introduce a number of new hires we’ve recently made at the company including:
Dan Bettes | Controller
Dan will be reporting directly to our CFO Alan Goodstadt. He is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting operations across our business units and will also assist in a range of FP&A and Business Intelligence functions.
Britnee Foreman | Data Strategy Manager
Britnee will be leading a number of data related initiatives including analysis, performance monitoring, and overseeing KPI and business intelligence development. Britnee joins us from Pandora’s Next Big Sound division where she was responsible for Client Experience and Analysis.
Ariel Hong | YouTube Rights Management Specialist
Ariel reports to Chinua Green and oversees our engagement with YouTube’s CMS database, working with Content ID in YouTube's backend to maximize Youtube revenues for our clients.
Ken Kashiwagi | Financial Analyst
Ken joined Downtown as a Financial Analyst from the Bank of Tokyo. Reporting to our CFO. Ken analyzes financial data related to our catalog and potential acquisition targets and provides a range of reporting for KPI tracking and other internal monitoring.
Ally Marcus | Royalty Coordinator
Ally has joined Downtown to assist in the management and organization of our Royalty Collection Database. She will be reviewing statements for discrepancies and maintaining the Downtown Royalty reconciliation spreadsheet and Royalty Log
Diana Mathangani | Licensing & Administration Coordinator
Diana Joined Downtown as the Licensing & Administration Coordinator, reporting to SVP Administration Sean McGraw. Her responsibilities include drafting and tracking mechanical licensing agreements, confirming and updating song splits,and assisting with the dissemination of payment and collection information to our licensors.
Kayte Olsufka | Executive Associate
Kayte joined Downtown as the Executive Associate, reporting to the company’s CEO Justin Kalifowitz. Her responsibilities include project management, schedule coordination, overseeing event logistics, market research, maintaining client relations, and office management support.
Oliver Monaco | Copyright Coordinator
Oliver reports to Jamie Barnes and assists with song copyright ingestion, CWR prep, and other copyright responsibilities to ensure copyright information is accurately reflected in all relevant databases. Oliver comes from The Harry Fox Agency where he was a Publisher Agent in the Client Services department.
Katie Roth | Creative Assistant/Office Coordinator, Nashville
Katie joined our Nashville team as Creative Assistant/Office Manager, reporting to VP of A&R Steve Markland. Her responsibilities include catalog management, demo billing, office management and assisting the Nashville A&R team.
Danny Weinfeld | Office Coordinator
Danny is the Office Coordinator based in New York. Danny is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Operations in HR and business operation efforts and in maintaining a cheerful office environment. Danny is also assisting the SVP, Business Affairs with calendar coordination, creation of decks and research. Additionally, Danny will be assisting to build and broaden our internship program.
