Advocating on behalf of the music community is core to Downtown. Collaborating with our songwriting partners, we are committed to protecting the integrity of music rights and promoting the value of copyright globally. We celebrate two recent team elections to esteemed organizations within this space.
Lucas van Slegtenhorst, Managing Director of Downtown Music Benelux, was elected to the board of Buma Cultuur. Buma Cultuur is a non-profit organization, funded by Buma Stemra, that supports the promotion and use of Dutch songwriters and copyrights globally through events like ESN Noorderslag, Amsterdam Dance Event, BUMA NL, and others. Over the next four years in his new designation, Lucas will work with Buma Cultuur on new initiatives around promoting Dutch songwriters and copyright, and fostering a healthy ecosystem for the development of new talent. Lucas has been with Downtown since 2014.
Roberto Neri, Managing Director of Downtown Music UK, was recently elected to the PRS Board of Directors. He began his career in 1999 at PRS, coming full circle with his new Board seat. Roberto is also joined by Downtown writer and artist Imogen Heap on the PRS board, whose mission is to protect music copyright through tackling the changes that the digital age has brought to the industry, as well as to fund and champion the creators representing the future of music. Roberto has been with Downtown since 2015.
Downtown’s executives also sit on the boards of National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP), and the Music Publisher’s Association (NMPA). In addition, our CEO, Justin Kalifowitz is the co-founder of NY is Music, a coalition of 200+ organizations dedicated to advancing the importance of music in economic development, culture, and education across New York State.
