Co-written and co-produced by longtime Sam Smith collaborator Jimmy Napes, the hit single "Dancing With a Stranger" featuring Normani has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Radio Songs Chart.
Released in January, the celebrated English crooner's song has steadily climbed the chart, also jumping to peak position on the Adult Pop Songs chart. In May, it joined the Mediabase top 10 in both the pop and hot adult contemporary radio charts, as well. Furthermore, with over 300 million Spotify streams, the song has performed well globally — entering the top 10 in several countries including Australia, where it also achieved 2x platinum status.
As Sam Smith’s key collaborator, Napes has played a major role in his career — co-writing other popular songs like “I’m Not the Only One,” “Too Good at Goodbyes,” and “Pray.” In 2015, Napes and Smith shared two GRAMMY Awards for Record of the Year with “Stay With Me” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Smith’s debut, In The Lonely Hour.
In 2016, he took home awards from the Oscars and the Golden Globes in the category of Best Original Song for his work on Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall,” the only James Bond movie theme to ever achieve a U.K. No. 1 single position. Napes also contributed to 11 out of 14 songs on Smith's latest album, Thrill of it All — which debuted at No. 1 in numerous countries, including the U.S. and U.K.
"Dancing With a Stranger" is Napes' second No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart as both a writer and producer since "Stay With Me," which peaked for six weeks in 2014.
