British singer, songwriter, and record producer Jimmy Napes won Songwriter of the Year at the A&R Awards 2019, presented by Music Business Worldwide in association with Abbey Road Studios. Sponsored in-part by Downtown, the ceremony was hosted in Central London’s De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms last night, on November 5.
“It was a proud moment to hand the Songwriter of the Year award to Jimmy," said Roberto Neri, our Executive Vice President U.K. and Head of European Business Development. "We are truly privileged to represent him at Downtown — and the amazing, world-class songs he has given to the world.”
Renowned for his work with A-list talent like Mary J. Blige, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Ray BLK, Naughty Boy, and more, Jimmy contributed to numerous hits this year — including the acclaimed U.K. top 10 Stormzy single “Crown” and Sam Smith’s massive radio hit “Dancing With a Stranger” featuring Normani.
Also nominated for Song of the Year at last night's awards, "Dancing With a Stranger" reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Adult Top 40 and Radio Songs charts — peaking in the top 10 on the Hot 100, Mainstream Top 40, and Official U.K. Singles charts, as well as the Mediabase pop and hot adult contemporary radio charts — earlier this year.
Downtown congratulates all of the A&R Awards 2019 winners and nominees.
