Theophilus London x Downtown

Downtown is thrilled to announce the signing of genre-transcending rapper, singer-songwriter, and fashion icon Theophilus London to his first publishing agreement, covering his entire song catalog.

Theo’s music draws inspiration from a variety of genres and styles ranging from hip-hop, R&B, and pop to new wave, post-punk, and electro — and he has worked with a diverse list of collaborators that include Kanye West, Solange Knowles, Big Boi of OutKast, A$AP Rocky, Mark Ronson, Azealia Banks, Ariel Pink, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, and Sara Quin of Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara. Theo also appeared alongside Paul McCartney and Allan Kingdom on Kanye’s “All Day” single, which had a star-studded live debut at the Brit Awards in 2015 and received nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance at the 58th Grammy Awards the following year.

The Trinidad-born, Brooklyn-bred artist began his career with a series of mixtapes that garnered major label attention, leading to Theo’s signing with Reprise/Warner Bros. Records for the release of his studio debut, the Lovers Holiday EP, in 2011. Later that year, his first full-length studio album Timez Are Weird These Days was released, peaking at number 30 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart. Theo released his sophomore studio album Vibes in 2014, which was executive produced by Kanye and also featured legendary artist, songwriter, and producer Leon Ware (Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye), as well as new jack swing forefathers the Force MDs. The stylish lyricist has also made a significant mark on the world of fashion, collaborating with brands like Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, and Cole Haan.
