Craig Leon is an American-born media producer, composer and arranger, currently living in the U.K.
Leon was instrumental in launching the careers of iconic recording artists including The Ramones and Blondie. Active in pop music production from 1974 to 1998, he has focused on classical composition, orchestration, arrangement and recording since. His work appears on a great number of classical recordings with artists including Luciano Pavarotti, Andreas Scholl, Sir James Galway, Joshua Bell, The London Chamber Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The London Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2014, he has been releasing and performing his own original contemporary electronic and orchestral compositions in concert as well. His latest project, Anthology of Interplanetary Folk Music Vol. 2: The Canon, was released in June 2019.
Leon’s compositions and arrangements have been used extensively in film, television and advertising productions — including Sam Mendes' 2019 masterpiece 1917, which received 10 nominations at the 2020 Academy Awards and took home three. Leon's arrangement of "I Am a Poor Wayfaring Stranger" was performed by actor Jos Slovick in the movie, which also won seven of the nine awards it was nominated for at the 2020 British Academy Film Awards — including Best Film. Craig's music has been featured in many other acclaimed motion pictures, including The Karate Kid and La Vie Promise, as well.
