Born Chris Mercer and raised in Leeds, songwriter/DJ/producer Rusko took a keen interest in the dub and reggae sound systems integral to the city’s sonic heritage.
After graduating with a degree in in Musical Performance from Leeds University, Rusko moved to London where he began working with fellow DJ and producer Caspa. As a result of promising early output and electrifying DJ sets, the pair secured a residency at London’s Fabric nightclub and released what’s thought to be the first commercially available dubstep mix with their Fabric Live CD.
Rusko’s Babylon Vol 1 EP followed and included “Cockney Thug” – a skanking yet brutal definitive slice of dubstep championed by Pete Tong, Switch, Diplo, Annie Mac amongst others and which transcended the emerging bass-centric scene.
Other noteworthy studio transmissions include Rusko’s devastating remixes for The Prodigy, Little Boots, Kid Sister and Kid Cudi.
In 2010 he released debut electronic/dubstep album O.M.G!, and was responsible for much of the production on M.I.A.’s album, including the “Space Odyssey” single. Outside of the studio, a relentless DJ schedule has already taken Rusko across the UK, Europe, US and Canada, and continues with imminent US tour dates alongside Diplo and Switch’s Major Lazer outfit.
His second album Songs was released in 2012.
